The Serve Team at Riverwood exists to help all attenders find a place to serve! The team is in the Commons one Sunday a month with the serving areas represented. You can also sign up at any time on the Sign Up Genius. Contact Dara Apolloni and Chuck Tryon, our Serve Team Co-Leads with any questions at serveteam@riverwoodcovenant.org.

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. Riverwood Covenant Church loves the community it serves and beyond. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas. Riverwood Covenant members are involved in a variety of ministries! Where can you see yourself connecting?

Bread Ministry
  • The bread ministry picks up and distributes the weekly donations from Panera Bread in Plymouth.
  • The bread table is a great place to meet new people at Riverwood.
  • We currently need people to set up the bread table on Sunday mornings (place the table cloth, lay out the bread, provide gloves and bags, and clean up the table when the bread is gone).
  • Time commitment is minimal. You can volunteer on Sundays whenever you are available. Currently there is no rotation.

Building/Facility Maintenance Ministry
  • The building/maintenance ministry is a great way to serve if you are good at hands-on projects or have knowledge of construction/project management.
  • Some of the duties include HVAC, appliance repair or installation, audio video installation, cleaning, painting, plumbing, hanging items, light electrical, security panel coordination, and much more!
  • We would like those with experience in these areas or with a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Volunteers will work with Riverwood staff/leaders and Elevate ministry when needs arise or projects are planned.
  • Time commitment is minimal, likely 2-5 hours a month or less. Many small projects are completed in less than an hour whenever time allows.

Children’s Ministry
  • Children’s ministry is for you if you love kids and love sharing about Jesus!
  • We are looking for teachers and helpers for our Pre-K and K-5th grade Sunday School classrooms, nursery workers, and volunteers for Energize, our Wednesday after-school program for K-5th grade.
  • NO prep is necessary! Tami will provide the lessons and all materials needed for the activities. You just have to show up and follow the plan.
  • If teaching isn’t your gift, there are also opportunities to donate supplies to help the ministry.
  • Rotation can be as little as one service a month, or as much as you would like to volunteer.
  • A background check is required for this ministry, at no cost to you.

Coffee Shop Ministry
  • The coffee shop ministry is a great way to use your gift of serving.
  • No experience is necessary, as full training is provided on making coffee, smoothies, and our clean-up process. Two service options – come at 8:00 am and set up for 9:00 am service, or come at 10:00 am and be available in-between services and clean up once 2nd service begins at 10:45 am.
  • Two team members for each shift.
  • Rotation is currently every 4th week, but will be extended with additional team members.
  • Additional serve times available when team members are unable to serve on their scheduled Sunday or additional services added such as Christmas Eve.

Elevate Student Ministry
  • If you enjoy working with or support our youth at Riverwood, Elevate ministry is for you!
  • Wednesday night small group leaders (leading small group discussions, praying with and doing life with the students. Commitment is about 4 hours a week). Leaders must have a calling to youth ministry.
  • Meals include cooking, serving, and cleaning up our Wednesday night meals. Commitment is flexible.
  • Music or tech help on Wednesday nights.
  • Building team (build games for the students like a gaga pit and fold-up carpet ball games)
  • Miscellaneous help always needed, like help with events, transportation, treats for Sunday school, and evening Bible studies. Monetary donations are always welcome.
  • Most positions are flexible on time commitments. Background and driving record checks are required for this ministry if you are directly working with the youth, at no cost to you.

Event Planning Ministry for Building Use (non-Riverwood events)
  • Event planning and supervising is a fun ministry where you are helping people plan their events at Riverwood (examples would be weddings, funerals, receptions, etc.).
  • Duties of this position are: meeting with clients interested in using our church building for an event, planning the event, communicating the details and needs to church leads, supervising events on the day of the event, representing Riverwood with integrity, safety, and security.
  • We would like someone with event planning experience, but it is not necessary, adequate training will be provided. Individuals should have the ability to anticipate the needs of each client, good communication skills, and a heart to help others plan.
  • Time commitment will vary according to the needs of each event. Initial planning will take place as soon as we are notified of the event. Detailed planning will happen 2 weeks out as a rule. Each of those meetings may take an hour. Day of event you would arrive prior to client to open the building and supervise through event and lock up.

Grounds Ministry
  • The Riverwood Weed Warriors help to maintain our beautiful grounds, assuring all who visit that our church is lovingly cared for.
  • General duties include weeding, some trimming of shrubs and perennials, raking when necessary, and watching for litter. At times we may be called on as a group for larger jobs, such as spreading mulch.
  • Some knowledge of identifying weeds is helpful, but supportive Weed Warriors can help to answer any questions.
  • Weed Warriors are self-guided, meaning grounds work is done according to your own time and schedule. We have each “adopted” areas of responsibility. At least two areas are awaiting adoption.
  • Time commitment is flexible – one to two hours a week a few times a month. Spring and summer are the most crucial times to keep everything looking good.

Meals Ministry
  • This ministry gives you the opportunity to provide a meal for an individual or family in need. Whether it is a new baby, health, or family crisis, these meals are so appreciated.
  • You will be added to the meal rotation. When a need arises, the meals ministry lead will send out an email to the servers next on the rotation. If you cannot provide a meal on your rotation, the lead will move to the next person.
  • No special requirements are needed for this ministry.
  • There will be times when this ministry is slow, and other times when it is very active. Flexibility and a servant’s heart are key.

MOPS (Mother’s of Preschoolers)
  • Do you have spirituals gifts in mentoring? How about teaching or a heart for God’s little ones? This just might be a perfect place for you.
  • Friday mornings from 9:15-11:30 am. Needing volunteers/helpers to spend some wonderful time bonding with toddlers, keeping them happy and entertained. There are many items in the children’s classroom to help with this.
  • Also in need of substitutes for both the nursery and preschool classrooms.
  • A background check is required for adults, at no cost to you. No background check is required for volunteers under 18 years old.
  • Seeking an adult who would love to be the Bible teacher for each lesson.

Office Ministry
  • The office ministry is a great way to use your administrative gifts to help out the church.
  • Some of the duties we are looking for are website updating, graphic design and marketing, social media management, and seasonal printing/mailing tasks.
  • We would like people with previous experience in some of these areas, but other projects require no experience.
  • Receive projects from the office manager and report when completed.
  • Time commitment is minimal and flexible – 2-5 hours per week, whenever it fits into your schedule. There are also some projects that can be accomplished in your home.

Prayer Ministry
  • This ministry gives you the opportunity to pray for the needs of our congregation and those they love. There are 2 opportunities:
      • Prayer team email chain and receive weekly prayer requests.
      • After-service prayer team and pray for those that have needs (by the cross)
  • There will be a rotation schedule with after and during service prayer teams, which occur on Sundays only. The prayer team email chain is a flexible schedule that allows you pray when you can.
  • We ask that upon joining these prayer teams you respect the privacy of any prayers that come in. Please keep all prayer requests confidential.

Riverwood Event Ministry
  • These are great entry-level serve opportunities throughout the year with low commitments and no rotations.
  • Areas/ministries that will be involved: Women’s and Men’s events, childcare, Easter, church picnics, baptisms, potlucks, VBS, Rockford River Days, Fall Kick Off, Trunk or Treat, Christmas decorating (set up and tear down), and Christmas Eve services.

  • Time commitment would vary according to the scheduled events. As a rule, planning would happen 1-2 months out, then connecting at 1-2 weeks out and 3 days from event.
  • Please note, your name will be placed on a master contact list. You will be contacted as these events and activities arise by the lead or staff. You only need to respond to events that you are comfortable, able, or led to serve at.

Ushering Ministry
  • Ushering is a fun and great way to meet people.
  • We have 4 ushers per service. Typically one to two ushers will be at the front doors prior to each service, opening doors and welcoming folks. Two ushers will be at the sanctuary doors greeting and handing out bulletins and/or handouts.
  • Helping seat folks, collecting the offering, and picking up in the sanctuary following each service are a few examples of some of the duties.
  • A training session is provided to cover all duties and responsibilities.
  • Rotation is typically once or twice a month, but can also provide flexibility with your availability. You would be serving at one service on your scheduled Sunday.
  • Holidays would be seasonal events that would offer more ushering opportunities.

Visitation Ministry
  • This ministry gives you the opportunity to visit individuals in the hospital and/or at their home.
  • When a need comes in, the visitation lead will send out a text message letting everyone know. Please respond to the text whether you can or cannot visit the individual. It’s okay to have more than one visitor; people like that. If you can visit, that would be great.
  • No special requirements are needed for this ministry other than your own transportation.

Welcome Ministry
  • You have the opportunity to honor Christ to everyone who seeks to be in a relationship with him by welcoming them to Riverwood. You will be the first impression of how amazing our church is.
  • You have the good fortune to serve along some great people and form meaningful relationships with people who are passionate for making people feel welcome in our church family.
  • Greeting at the welcome area is a fun and great way to connect with friends and meet new people.
  • The rotation is comfortable with a low commitment. You would be serving at only one service on your scheduled Sunday.
  • A brief training session is provided.
  • Holidays and seasonal events would offer more greeting opportunities.

Worship Ministry – Tech Team
  • The tech team ministry is a great way to help enhance our Sunday morning experience in the areas of sound, lighting, and video.
  • Some of the positions we are looking for are sound board operators, video, and slide projection operators, lighting operators, video camera operators, as well as video creators.
  • Previous experience is helpful in some of these areas, but all positions can be trained.
  • Assist in rehearsals on Sunday mornings as well as both worship services.
  • Time commitment is flexible and scheduled in advance. Mainly Sunday morning worship services with other opportunities to serve at other events where technology is required.
