Imagine Giving Guide – FAQ’s

CREATIVE GIVING STRATEGIES
Deciding what and how much to give is a choice to be made between God, you, and your family. All things belong to God and he wants us to use wisely what he has given. Prayerfully consider what God would have you give. The following list may generate some creative ideas for giving.

GIFTS IN KIND/APPRECIABLE ASSETS:
Transferring ownership of stocks, bonds, real estate, automobiles, etc. Tax codes are generous towards this form of giving. Giving the asset to the church, then allowing the church to sell eliminates potential capital gains taxes and can increase the after-tax proceeds, proving significant tax savings.

INCOME-PRODUCING ASSETS:
Interest Income, payments from rental properties, or monies from other income-producing assets provide sources of increased giving.

SALE OF ASSETS:
Sales of major assets such as a house, car, land, or business provide sources of increased giving.

INCOME RAISES/BONUSES/TAX RETURNS:
Donating raises, bonuses, and tax returns are also avenues to increased giving.

FREEDOM FROM DEBT:
As debt obligations are fulfilled, additional revenue may become available for increased giving.

UNIQUE SKILLS INCOME/SPECIAL SALES:
You may have marketable hobbies or skills, which enable you to give from those profits. Or, maybe you can hold a garage sale and donate the proceeds to the Imagine Campaign.

GIVE UP SOME LUXURIES:
Lifestyle adjustments can help make extra money available to give to the Imagine Campaign. Consider cancelling magazine subscriptions and frequent trips for coffee, or scaling back on entertainment and eating out.

FAQ’S

SHOULD I REDIRECT MY TITHE OR REGULAR GIVING TO THE IMAGINE CAMPAIGN?
No. Your giving commitment to the initiative should be above and beyond your regular giving.

HOW DO I MAKE MY COMMITMENT TO IMAGINE?
On Sunday, November 19th we will come together as a church family to take the next step towards God’s vision for Riverwood Covenant Church by doing two things: Completing a commitment card to indicate what God is leading us to give, over and above our regular giving, for the next three years. Give our First Fruits offering – our largest possible gift that counts toward that commitment. We will all turn in our First Fruits offering and commitment cards together, as an expression of our worship of God. First Fruits offerings and commitment cards can be turned in before or after that weekend in case you’re unable to attend the service.

WHAT IS A FIRST FRUITS OFFERING?
Just as the Bible refers to times when God’s people were encouraged to bring the best of the crops or herds as an offering to the Lord (Proverbs 3:9-10), First Fruits in Imagine carry the same idea. We are worshipping the Lord by making a sacrificial commitment to His expanded work through Imagine. First Fruits is the opportunity we have, to bring our largest possible gift toward our identified 3-year commitment, on the same weekend. The First Fruits offerings will be given with the commitment card at the weekend service on Sunday, November 19th. Deciding what and how much to give is a choice to be made between God, you, and your family. All things belong to God and He wants us to use wisely what He has given. IS MY COMMITMENT CONFIDENTIAL? CAN IT BE CHANGED IF NECESSARY?
All giving to Riverwood Covenant Church is confidential including giving to the Imagine Campaign. Commitments can be changed if necessary, allowing you to either increase or decrease your commitment as needed. Your decision to change your commitment should be done only after much prayer.

WILL I BE BILLED MONTHLY FOR MY PLEDGE?
No. We will be counting on you to meet your commitments in a timely manner. Your gifts may be given via the mail, the weekly offering, through our online giving portal or through donor advised funds. If giving via check, please be sure to designate your checks by writing “IMAGINE” on the memo line and use an Imagine envelope.

WHAT ARE DONOR ADVISED FUNDS?
These are all types of assets (cash, stocks, non-liquid assets, real estate, businesses/business interests, employer matched giving). You can set-up a Giving Fund through National Christian Foundation and choose Riverwood Covenant Church as the recipient of these assets and receive an income tax deduction at the time of the donation. For more information, call the church office at 763-477-9126 or email Office@RiverwoodCovenant.org.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MORE OR LESS FUNDS ARE COMMITTED?
If more than $1,082,000 is sacrificially given over the next three years, 90% of the additional funds will go towards reducing the mortgage, and 10% to outreach. If less is committed, there is a first, second and third focus with a prioritized plan for each focus. Projects will only be done once all funds are in.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME?
Ask questions and be informed. Most importantly, seek God. Take time to prayerfully consider what kind of sacrifice God is asking you to make. “Not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice” best describes Riverwood’s understanding of Biblical stewardship. Not everyone can make a million dollar gift, but everyone can make a sacrificial one.
